CATS4TAX – Tax Tip #13
If the taxpayer has a tax file number and has not informed the tax office that it is their final return, some notification from the taxpayer is expected.
A non-lodgement advice:
the taxpayer has not had any tax withheld from income and has earned less than $18,200 (the tax free threshold)
A tax return:
the taxpayer has had tax withheld and earned less than the tax free threshold and wishes to claim the tax paid.
A taxpayer should only claim the tax free threshold for one job in an income year, or this could result in a tax liability (tax payable to the Australian Tax Office)
A non-lodgement advice may be submitted by the taxpayer or a tax agent, for a small preparation fee.
